The Govt. of India has launched 32 channels solely for the purpose of educational content dissemination. The channels are accessible via the DTH (direct-to-home) platform. 32 channels are coordinated and run by different institutions in the higher education sector. IIT, NCERT, UGC, CEC etc are the national coordinators of the channels. Each channel focuses on different domains of learning, for example, the engineering subjects are coordinated by the IIT whereas non-technical UG is coordinated by the CEC. Out of the 32 channels, 10 channels intended for UG/PG studies are coordinated by the CEC. Among the ten, 6 channels are distributed to six different media centres for coordination. The EMMRC, Calicut is entrusted with the running of channel-08 of SWAYAMPRABHA. The channel-08 is focused on the dissemination of content in the subject areas of Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Physics and Earth Sciences, namely, Geography and Geology.
